A question we hear regularly from our customers is regarding which type of tile to use, and which would work best for their project. Most tiles are made of either Porcelain or Ceramic, but what is the difference between the two?

Their main difference is in Temperature and Pressure

Both porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from a mixture of clay and minerals with water, but their main differences are in the mineral used in the mixture and the way they are baked. Porcelain is fired at a higher temperature and higher pressure as compared to ceramic which makes it more dense and less porous. This makes them durable and resistance to wear and moisture, ideal for flooring, bathrooms, outdoor spaces and commercial applications. They are also increasingly popular for their ability to mimic natural materials like wood and stone.

On the other hand, ceramic tiles are baked in a klin at lower temperatures. While they are easy to maintain and resistant to scratches, stains and moisture, they are more likely to chip or crack under heavy impact. For this reason they are mainly used for walls, counter tops and decorative accents in residential and commercial spaces, offering a wide range of colours, patterns and finishes.

whether it’s a sleek kitchen backsplash or a stylish outdoor patio, ceramic and porcelain tiles provide practical and aesthetically pleasing solutions for variety of design needs.
